Post 20% drop-out rate in university courses posted on Simon Donnelly's blog

The BBC reported last week that a fifth of students drop out of England and Wales university courses despite £800m spent on the problem.

Some students commented that the high costs of finding accommodation, course fees and general living force them out of courses. Some just chose the wrong courses in the first place.

Here at Inner Path we believe that if a student knows what career path would suit them best behaviourally, they would be able to select the most appropriate courses. Better than that, they would be much more likely to stick with the subjects. The reason for this is that they will be operating "in the zone". When you choose work that really fits you, it doesn't feel like work at all.

Have you ever been doing something you thoroughly enjoy and not noticed the passage of time? When you finally check, hours have passed but it seems like only minutes. And you've been enjoying yourself immensely, too. That's what we mean by "in the zone".

So, how do we help the students to decide? Do we target their parents? Aim at the schools and colleges? Become involved in the universities' selection processes? Advertise on Facebook?

If you are the parent of a future university student, how would you like the chance to find out what would suit your child most?

We really want to help the students to reduce the stress and facilitate their future educational choices.

Inner Path offer a career guidance tool that is unlike all the others we've seen and assessed. It's on-line, available now and simple to understand. You can find it at www.innerpath.co.uk.
