Magistrates prove they are on a different planet
Devoted readers will note (I assume you mean me as your only reader and I have to! ed.) that recently I picked up on a story about a girl who was pulled up for putting feet on the seat and the train company's intention of taking her to court for vandalism. Now I was quite pleased about this for although a little harsh these sorts of jerks who think they can trash our environment and plead innocence need sorting out. However what was the response of the magistrates - basically the case was dismissed and 200 or so other thrown out. Now my first reaction was to reach for a 3/8 drill and drive up to the courthouse and carry out an emergency trepanation on the members of the bench to let some light and air into their muddled heads. For the message they have just sent out is its OK to vandalise and what silly boys Mersey train are for pulling them up on this. Apparently the girls lawyer came up with some cock and bull story that a criminal record would damage her prospects as a teacher!! I suppose if her brief had said to the beak that to have a criminal record would effect her career as a hooker or hamburger waitress it would not have had the same effect on the soft hearted bench.

I agree this one seems to have gone awry - I suspect many people feel the same way about those who put their feet on the seats - even if they are new shoes they have already walked on all sorts of unpleasant things on the street to get to the train, so what makes them think we want to sit on the left-overs!
And now when we ask them to take their shoes (or smelly feet minus shoes?) off the seat we are likely to face a load of lip and 'the courts say its okay'.Posted 15th October 2007 at 13:32 by Alice at Equisport
