Default Insurance woes

I thought I would share my experience of trying to get business insurance for a new venture we are starting up.

Firstly I tried our existing insurers, who cover us for public, professional indemnity, employer insurance and so on. They directed us to a website which was for small companies (one director and up to a max of two employees!)

When I asked if that was okay for 3 directors, and what would happen when we started employing people, I was told yes to the first, and 'need to get another type of insurance then' to the second!

Given we want to grow quickly I did a search on the net.

Almost all of them do quotes online, but many then still sent a note saying they could not quote because we were doing something unusual (!) - or something to that ilk. I did manage to get one quote online but it was five times as much as we had expected...

In the end I gave up and rang a company recommended by someone else, and got sorted straight away!

Perhaps it's me - has anyone else had this sort of hassle?

More on this later I suspect.

Stephanie
