Default Marketing you online Business

Hi

With such huge competition on the World Wide Web, how do you market you business online?

1) Use Google Adwords depending on what your website is. e.g. If it's an ecommerce site selling products then Google Adwords is great. If it is a blog then Google Adwords is a waste of money.

2) Visit forums and get to know other webmasters. Let them know about the products and services you offer. Gain some reputation online so people trust your website.

3) Link exchange with other sites to get your self good rankings in the search engines

4) Submit your site to web directories

I'll stop here, anyone else got any more they would like to add?

Thanks very much for these excellent tips GKD - really useful.

Do you think bloggs and podcasts etc., help or is it the general content that is more important?

Attended the CIM meeting in Brighton last night which was on the subject of social marketing and online media. Extremely interesting and useful session.

They emphasised the importance of content when developing your own forums, and also the need to get people engaged, give them a reason to a) join and b) repeat visits.

They also discussed the importance of trust - not only in the things we already understand like having a secure website for payments etc., but in being unbiased, honest and not over-selling.

Of course, not everyone has the time to set up forums, bloggs etc., on their own website, most small businesses are fully engaged trying to develop and support business/clients and I can promise you doing this sort of thing does take a lot of time - that is one of the reasons why we hope companies will make use of BizFace, not only to get information but also to get themselves known, through taking part in forums and blogss here - it's a lot quicker and easier than setting up your own. Of course some of you need to have your own forums, and again it can still be useful to get involved in others to get awareness and allow those search enging 'bots' to find you easily.

The cycle of popular/unpopular in websites was highlighted - it is a bit here today gone tomorrow with even the more popular sites, but there are examples where the target audience is clear and the need is there, to maintain an audience. We are hoping we can do that with BizFace of course!

It was suggested that a Wiki might be useful on your website, to assist with technical terms, although I do feel that Wikipaedia is doing such a good job that might be a bit unnecessary - what do others think - should we have a Wiki here with terms that are regularly used on BizFace?

I believe Internet marketing is all together a different ball game, often people misunderstood the difference between an SEO, SEM and Online marketing. The process should be carried out specifcally and campaigns should differenciate the followings.

- Website promotion to reach buyers.
- Website promotion to rank well in SE's.

For example if you are selling a cellphone online, ranking well alone can not generate business, people do check the credibility from several comparison engines like Reseller ratings and so on.

Let me join with one idea. I think writting good articles and publish on the internet with your signature at the bottom is a good way to promote your website.

Rather than link to Wiki why not create your own glossary that relates to your own topic?
