Marketing in the public sector
Dear all,
Although customer relationships have been viewed as important things to progess in the public sector over the last few years, there are some concerns still for many about whether they should be marketing, or at least, the purpose of the marketing. For example, the tax man uses advertising to remind us to complete our forms on time, the NHS uses advertsing to try to increase public awareness of health isues. But should they use the more fundamental aspecs of marketing such as understanding the customer, the competition, the 4P's etc?
Increasingly there is a resounding yes to that, even though some worry about concepts such as Hospitals competing with each other.
I attach a really brief set of slides highlighting why public sector marketing is different. It may help those who are trying to sell services (including marketing services) into the public sector as well.
Comments much appreciated.
