Marketing services is very different

Long time ago I was involved in selling computer systems since I have been developing and supplying services I really do find it is different - intangibles mean that the personal aspect is so important.

Yet finding the time to go to networking events is really difficult - so I am hoping this will be a good way of getting to know people a bit before I go to the lunches.

Is anyone else feeling the same way?

I have found this in my day job - it is always difficult to discuss with colleagues at networking events as they assume (probably rightly) that at the back of ones mind you are trying to sell them something - what we may try and do is think about a networking on-line seminar to prepare for these types of marketing initiatives and perhaps hint how it could be done on-line

Hello Stephanie, Roy, all,

I find that often I do not meet the 'right' people when I go to face to face meetings, and would view this forum as a way of getting to know who I should be meeting when I go, also if we perhaps put photos up or exchange photos with people we want to meet we would know who to look for!

Thumbs up Re: Marketing services is very different

Great idea Beth,

Although you can exchange photos by email when you agree to meet, I think it really helps if all members put a photo on their profile (you can use an avatar - a sketch or image - instead of a photo to show up on messages if you are a bit shy).

So please everyone, upload some photos (any problems with that please email or PM [personal message] me.

As this forum grows, which I think it will given the increased activity in the last week or so, it will be more important to have photos and avatars and let others know we are around.

kind regards
Stephanie

Education Re: Marketing services is very different - a brief presentation

Here are some ideas from a presentation I give on marketing services. As it highlights, although it may depend a bit on where along the continuum you are between pure product and pure service, the core differences are about intangibility, variability, perishability (you cannot sell yesterday's training course again) and inseperability. Some suggest lack of ownership is also an issue, although it can of course be sold as a key advantage (e.g. not having to buy a car when you go on a weeks holiday abroad).

For each of these 'differences' there are marketing strategies you can develop to assist you - there are quite a few tips on here but I would be very happy to see a discussion going on here on BizFace - then we can all help each other.

I will post a short one up about the differences with the public sector marketing shortly.

kind regards
Stephanie
