I would like to see a more informal set of forums as well as the ones we already have - where we can put trivia or fun stuff. Bizface could be a little too serious - although there are some good subjects to talk about!!

Hi Roy,

Very happy to have less serious discussions here - especially if that is what members want. I will set one up.

We will be including bloggs as soon as the vBulletin software (which runs this forum) allows, which I am told will happen very soon.

Look out for bloggs on the Grumpy businessman, barefoot psychologist, ethical consultant etc!

not sure if it counts as trivial but the chairman of the Mann Booker prize said there was a dirth of UK novels with business themes - so maybe we could invite scenarios r maybe even a soap opera - or perhaps a list of favourite business novels??

Apart from The Goal I cannot really think of a business novel to vote for - but I think it would be interesting to see what others have read.

Don't know that one - the feature on BBC radio 4 - mentioned that its much more common in usa to have novels with business themes - and they can be very global in range - like the film 'Blood Diamonds' I suppose.
UK novels tend to be much more modest about shopkeepers or maybe publishing houses as in some of Fay Weldon's oeuvre.
Its not as if UK doesn't have its share of moguls but maybe business folk don't write novels ??

Actually just thoughtthat Robert Maxwell has been the subject of at least two novels - well presuming that the recent play was a novel - i read Snoo Wilson's novel Tales of Malmoth - which is a thinly disguised black comedy about Robert Maxwell. Will see if i can find the link on amazon - not that he did very well with it - think he was maybe a bit too coywith the title.
