Arrow Outsourcing growth to slow

The global outsourcing market growth will slow to just over 8% from 10% last year, according to Gartner Group - however offshoring is still increasing.

The article also discusses the growth in utility delivery models - something I will have to do a bit more research on myself!

I am sure outsourcing can save an orgnaisation a lot of money but it can also cause huge problems if not done correctly, there are even news of some companies bringing previously outsourced projects (including call centres) back to UK and doing it in house again.

Yes indeed - one of the terms used for this is 'back-sourcing' where companies bring the projects/service and the staff back in-house. It is happening more and more and not surprisingly does require some careful handling. Particularly if organizations were not sensitive about managing the staff when they transferred them out - the staff are often not very happy about being transferred back (or half of them have left anyway).

Of course, if the service provider treated them badly then they are often quite comfortable with the idea of moving back.

It must feel a bit strange sometimes though!

I think it also demonstrates clearly that outsourcing is not the solution for everything, and that companies are beginning to realise that some things are better off kept in-house. Planning the outsourcing clearly in the first place is important (and may have helped them to realise that they did not need to outsource, just get their internal 'act' in order!).

But more on that later.

kind regards
Stephanie
