This just in from the Centre for confidence:
We are writing to let you know about our two latest half-day events with Professor Carol Dweck from Stanford University, whose latest book The New Psychology of Success is having a large impact on people in education and business. At the Centre we believe that Dweck’s work on mindsets is exactly what we need in Scotland to help foster confidence, boost motivation and release potential. Indeed we recently participated in a mindsets research project with students at the University of Glasgow and even a small intervention on mindsets (a controlled trial) improved not just students’ motivation but also their academic grades.
We are holding the two events on Thursday 18th September at Oran Mor, Glasgow. A summary of the programme is below. More information, and on-line booking, is available on our website

9.30am to 12.30 pm: Creating Confident Individuals: a masterclass on the Curriculum for Excellence (£60 plus VAT)
This masterclass will be led by Professor Carol Dweck with additional input from Dr Carol Craig, from the Centre who will talk about our own work on confidence and mindset. David Cameron, Director of Children’s Services at Stirling Council, will chair the event and Keir Bloomer, a former member of the Curriculum Review Group will give some closing remarks.
2.00pm to 5.00 pm: Growing Success: a masterclass on strengths, motivation and potential (£80 plus VAT)
The afternoon session is particularly aimed at those involved in business or leadership. Both Carol Dweck and Alex Linley (an international expert on strengths based at Warwick) will speat at this event. The two speakers will share their expertise on how to maximise potential and performance. There will also be time for some discussion on the conflict/synergy of mindset/strengths approaches and their application particularly to the business world.
If you attended the Carol Dweck event organised by the Centre last year, please note that we think that the additional content, and opportunity to network with like minded people, will make attendance at one, or both of the events, of value to you.
