Default Re: Creativity

Will have to check whether any research has been done with the link to performance, although here are a few words about the concept:

Creativity has been defined in numerous ways, at work the term is often used to emphasise the development of novel and useful ideas for meeting daily work demands. The term has been described as a process (being creative) a product (the outcomes of creative ideas) and a personality trait. As well as links to personality (e.g. creative traits) the literature indicates links to intellect and cognitive skills, affective states and self-efficacy (Tierney & Farmer, 2004). Creativity is viewed as increasingly important in todays workforce, indeed has been argued as a key competency for the 21st century (Beghetto, 2007) and essential for addressing complex individual and societal issues. Importantly, creativity has been linked to well-being and satisfaction at work. Here it may be useful to distinguish between ‘creative genius’ and daily adaptive creativity. Key influences for the latter according to the literature are leadership, work environment and expectations. However, because of the emphasis at times on ‘creative personality’ some individuals may experience a self-fulfilling prophecy that they are not creative because they do not expect to be.

Any thoughts?
