According to research by Global Action Plan, 86% of businesses do not measure the carbon footprint of their IT operations.

Worst still, the view is, most IT departments are terribly inefficient - and it is not just a question of leaving things on standby overnight, or not switching off at the plug (all those little leds eat up a lot of energy). Many systems are not used efficiently, servers underutilised and so on.

The report says that carbon emissions from ICT will exceed that from aviation shortly - so we really do need to do something about it!

I think the message is getting home to major IT equipment manufacturer, they have started incorporating green features into their products.

One of the major green organisations has also started awarding green points to IT equipment, at the moment, Lenovo is considered to be the most green computer manufacturer.
